ABOUT LIMA I Your Destination City

Lima – City of Kings – and a few queens!  We’ve created a great package for those looking for something different; a fun and complete trip. A combination of cultural, archaeological, culinary and experiential activities make of this program an alternative way to discover the best kept secrets of Lima and Cusco, like the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco in the capital, or the artisan’s village of Chinchero in the Sacred Valley.

Travelers frequently treat Lima, located on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean, as a layover on their way to the Andes or Iquitos, the Peruvian jungle where visitors are greeted with open arms. For gay visitors the incentive to pass it over was even greater: For years Lima was beset by crime, sometimes brutal anti-gay discrimination and antiquated notions of homosexuality.

All that, however, is starting to change, if at a somewhat slower pace than the other large Latin America cities-- Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, all of which in varying degrees have experienced queer awakening of sorts. The city recently enjoyed its first gay pride event, and activists are plotting change. Lima is a fascinating, diverse city of nearly 10 million.

Gay nightlife, a cluster of bars, clubs and sex clubs, is based in the distrito de Linces, cab it there and back to your gay-friendly neighborhood hotel. Peruvian gay men are extremely friendly, and eager to show visitors around town.

Day 1: LIMA | Arrival | INC:  DINNER

Arrival in the city of Lima, assistance and transfer to your gay-friendly hotel. In the evening, you will have a romantic dinner at La Rosa Náutica, one of the most traditional restaurants in the city, located on the ocean. The night view of the bay of Miraflores, Barranco and Chorrillos together with the sea breeze will be the best framework to start your romantic adventure.

Overnight in Lima.

Day 2: LIMA - AREQUIPA | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

In the morning, take the flight to Arequipa. Go sightseeing around the city with a brief general description of the White City and a visit to the Monastery of Santa Catalina, which was closed for over 400 years and today captivates us with its narrow passages, squares and gardens inspired by the old neighborhoods of Seville and Granada.

Day 3: AREQUIPA – COLCA | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

In the morning, go to the spectacular Colca Valley, ascend through the slopes of the Chachani Volcano. The views of the Misti and Picchu Picchu Volcanoes are spectacular. You will go through the vicuña reserve of Pampa Cañahuas, and see them running freely around the high Andean lands as they please. Unique typical villages will arise while you continue your hike and you’ll have lunch on the way to your hostel accommodation. The afternoon is free to rest and enjoy the facilities or to visit the hot springs in the area. Dinner and overnight in the hostel.

Day 4: COLCA - PUNO | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

Very early in the morning, head for the viewpoint of Cruz del Condor and expect to see the imposing flight of the condors, enormous endangered Andean birds which are the symbol of the Andes Mountain Range. The view allows you to fully see the extent of the canyon, considered as one of the deepest in the world; visit the towns of Maca and Yanque that still preserve their colonial churches.

After lunch, make a 5-hour trip on a special transport unit to your hotel in Puno, where you’ll be welcomed and assisted on arrival. Weather permitting; you can visit the Mausoleum of Sillustani on the route.  Dinner and overnight in Puno;  remember that you have reached an altitude of 3.800 meters (12,470 feet) above sea level and it is important to rest for acclimation.  Take advantage of the breathtaking night scenery where the stars and the moon, in one of the clearest and most beautiful skies in the country, can be reflected completely in the Lake.

Day 5: PUNO | Lake Titicaca, Taquile Island | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

Today will be a full day to explore the mythical Lake Titicaca, origin of the Inca legend.  The first stop will be the community of the Uros, where these friendly locals will share their customs and show how they live on artificial islands built โ€‹โ€‹of totora reeds. Then, continue towards the Taquile Island, a place where the inhabitants still keep their ancestral traditions alive and colorful outfits; a great opportunity to explore the island and get the best view of the lake.   Have lunch on the island and in the afternoon, return to the city.  In case you would like to enjoy a more intense interaction with the local culture and visit a more remote location, it is possible to replace the tour to the Taquile Island with the tour to Amantani Island upon request.

Overnight in Puno.

Day 6: PUNO - CUSCO | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

Next, leave with your guide on private transportation to the city of Cusco.  Along the way make convenient stops visiting the attractions along this beautiful landscaped route. Your first stop will be at the Site Museum of Pucara; don’t miss this opportunity to get one of the local classic bull-shaped ceramics.  Stop for lunch and enjoy the beautiful views at La Raya, the natural border between Puno and Cusco; then head towards Racchi, Temple of God Wiracocha, where the huge walls and narrow paths stand out and finish the tour with a visit to the beautiful chapel of Andahuaylillas. Arrive in Cusco at the end of the afternoon and enjoy a free night; our representatives will suggest places for a special romantic dinner tonight.  Overnight in Cusco.

Day 7: CUSCO | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

In the morning, ascend to the Archeological Park of Sacsayhuaman, and begin the tour visiting the fortress of the same name, a beautiful place that radiates peace and tranquility; admire the huge rocks up to 4 meters high, which were used in its construction. Head for Q'enqo, the ancient temple of the Puma where you can see a sacrificial altar in the inner part of an enormous rock, and then towards Tambomachay, sacred springs of life and health.  On the way, have a panoramic view of Puca Pucara, a watchtower guarding the entrance to the city.  Later, go to the Temple of the Sun, "The Korikancha", where the Convent of Santo Domingo was built. According to a legend, this temple was completely covered with gold sheets, which astonished the Conquerors upon their arrival. Finally, visit the Plaza de Armas and enter the Cathedral that houses valuable colonial works and paintings, such as the Cross which arrived with the first conquerors.

Enjoy the rest of the day free to be captivated by the charm of the city and its colonial buildings.

In the evening, you will savour a romantic dinner at the MAP Café Restaurant, located in the courtyard of the Pre-Columbian Art Museum. The restaurant is very well known for integrating dishes that combine traditional Andean ingredients with modern methods of preparation, coupled with first class service.  The contrast between the minimalist modern glass structure of the restaurant and the architecture of the colonial patio where it sits, exemplifies the fusion of old and new that is portrayed on their menu.  MAP Café stands out for an excellent bilingual service, live music every night, an extensive wine list and an unforgettable gastronomic experience.  Overnight in Cusco.

Day 8: CUSCO/SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

The Sacred Valley welcomes you this day – On the way, stop at Awanacancha, a complex where you’ll learn about and feed Andean camels, such as llamas and alpacas and the local inhabitants will show their weaving and dyeing techniques of traditional Peruvian textiles.  Later, visit the traditional Pisac Market and have enough free time to shop and buy some local crafts. If you feel like trying something traditional, stop by the wood ovens for bread and empanadas.   Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before an afternoon trip to Ollantaytambo, a picturesque town continuously inhabited since the Inca times; visit the temple with the same name, used as a fortress during the Inca resistance.  Overnight in Sacred Valley.

Day 9: SACRED VALLEY/MACHU PICCHU/CUSCO | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

Leave by train to visit one of the 7 Wonders of the World; arrive at Aguas Calientes station where our staff will assist boarding the bus to go up a winding road offering a spectacular view of the Urubamba River that gives shape to the famous canyon.  The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, will welcome you with its astonishing terraces, steps, ceremonial shrines, and urban areas – the energy emanates from everywhere!  After a fully guided tour, have enough time to explore the citadel and have lunch at a local restaurant.  At an arranged time, return by train and transferred to the hotel.  Overnight in Cusco.

Day 10: CUSCO/LIMA | INC: BREAKFAST

Transfer to the Cusco Airport to take your flight to Lima.  On arrival, you’ll have assistance for your international connection.
