To the north an eerie, sulfurous-green sheen begins to ripple into the night sky.  It arcs itself into an ebb and flow, slowly growing, then suddenly bursts across the full expanse of the night sky waving and dancing as if it were happy.  It’s the spectacular and mystical Northern Lights and viewings such as the one above are common in the Yukon.

Northern Lights viewing activities take place outside the city.  A heated, cozy cabin or wall tent is available for your comfort.  Hot drinks and snacks are provided.  You will spend two great nights at the Northern Lights Lodge + Resort with amazing views of the Aurora!  ‘Spice-up’ during the day with our half our full-day tours! – JUST ASK!

While in Whitehorse you’ll get 24 hours of GAYLIGHT!  The great “OUT” doors as it’s called (up there) just held their first Pride Parade, and Whitehorse’s lesbian community outnumbers gay men by about 20:1!  Be sure to check out the bars

ITINERARY

4 Days/3 Nights

Day 1
We'll welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your gay-friendly hotel in downtown Whitehorse; located within walking distance of all attractions, restaurants, banks and stores.  Once at the hotel you’ll participate in an informational meeting and registration for optional tours; fitting of winter clothing (optional), then it’s time for shopping and dinner on your own.

At 9:30PM we’ll depart for Aurora viewing. A cozy, heated cabin or wall tent with hot drinks and snacks makes your Aurora viewing even more enjoyable!  We’ll return to hotel around 2:00AM

Day 2
It was a late night, so, sleep in the morning!  At 10:00AM you’ll embark on a city tour to see Main Street, the Train Depot of the White Pass and Yukon Route, Log Skyscraper, Log Church, Sternwheeler SS Klondike, Fish ladder, Schwatka Lake and some residential areas.

Between 2:00 – 4:00PM we will bring you to the Northern Lights Resort & Spa. Relax, unwind and soak up the peaceful ambiance; located just 20 minutes south of Whitehorse, this little piece of paradise is the Yukon´s newest get-away destination - a hideaway located in a quiet open countryside close to the Yukon River, surrounded by pine forests and ringed by mountains.  Built from massive Douglas Fir and to meet European standards by your German-Canadian hosts, the 3600 sq foot lodge features a luxurious great room for guest gathering, relaxing, breakfast and dinner use with a dramatic panoramic view of the Yukon River valley and the mountain range.  Guests stay in the cozy guest room with large en-suite bathroom in the lodge or in a well-appointed 320 sq/ft. cottage featuring a large living/bedroom with fireplace, adjacent kitchen and en-suite bathroom.  The spa & wellness area is located in the main building and features a finish sauna, infrared sauna, whirlpool, rest room and a room for massage treatments. The surroundings are perfect for relaxing in the guest lounge, the large deck or the privacy of your own cottage, enjoying the spectacular views of the Northern Lights in winter.  The open area surrounding the lodge allows unobscured views of the soaring Aurora! In the evening enjoy a delicious 3 course dinner.  After the dinner make sure to stay up to view the mystical Aurora Borealis; watch them dancing either from the hot tub, the open field or from the cozy inside – you will have a great outlook towards North from anywhere!

Day 3
Wake up to a healthy European-style breakfast and spend your days relaxing in the lodge in front of the fireplace and talk with your hosts.  Since you will be up late the night before, you may not want to have breakfast too early.  Go for a snow shoe hike, or plan a day out dog sledding (optional tours).  Enjoy the sauna and a customized massage treatment in our spa; or simply relax in the outdoor hot tub on the large deck under the breathtaking northern sky. In the evening, after dinner, you’ll be up late again to view the Aurora Borealis!

Day 4
Breakfast at the lodge.  The morning is at your leisure or you can plan an optional day tour (need to be booked in advance), then transfer back to your hotel in downtown at 11AM or after your optional day tour.

At 9:30PM we will depart for your last night of Aurora viewing at the Northern Tales Trading Post and return to the hotel around 2:00AM.
