To end this adventure in style, we have two suggestions to spend your last night in Peru:

Party night: According the day, you can have a drink or“piqueo” at the most finest bars in Lima or have a crazy fun at the biggest gay disco in town.

Romantic Dinner at La Rosa Nautica: If you prefer to end this trip in a more intimate way, this is for you: a fancy and romantic dinner at La Rosa Nautica, a restaurant located on a pier overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Lima – City of Kings – and a few queens!  We’ve created a great package for those looking for something different; a fun and complete trip. A combination of cultural, archaeological, culinary and experiential activities make of this program an alternative way to discover the best kept secrets of Lima and Cusco, like the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco in the capital, or the artisan’s village of Chinchero in the Sacred Valley.

Travelers frequently treat Lima, located on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean, as a layover on their way to the Andes or Iquitos, the Peruvian jungle where visitors are greeted with open arms. For gay visitors the incentive to pass it over was even greater: For years Lima was beset by crime, sometimes brutal anti-gay discrimination and antiquated notions of homosexuality.

All that, however, is starting to change, if at a somewhat slower pace than the other large Latin America cities-- Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, all of which in varying degrees have experienced queer awakening of sorts. The city recently enjoyed its first gay pride event, and activists are plotting change. Lima is a fascinating, diverse city of nearly 10 million.

Gay nightlife, a cluster of bars, clubs and sex clubs, is based in the distrito de Linces, cab it there and back to your gay-friendly neighborhood hotel. Peruvian gay men are extremely friendly, and eager to show visitors around town.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1: LIMA | INC: -

Arrival in the city of Lima, assistance and transfer to your gay-friendly hotel. In the afternoon, we will begin our adventure going sightseeing along the main streets, squares and avenues in the city. Start off at Parque del Amor (Love Park) in Miraflores, with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean; then later a panoramic view of Huaca Pucllana, a ceremonial center of the early inhabitants of Lima; and in San Isidro, the financial center of the city, we will see Huaca Huallamarca, an ancient pre-Inca shrine.  Then we’ll head for Plaza de Armas (Main Square), to see Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace) and Palacio Municipal (City Hall).  We will visit La Catedral (the Cathedral) and walk to San Francisco, a 17th-century convent to go deep into its famous catacombs. Overnight in Lima

DAY 2: LIMA | INC: BREAKFAST; LUNCH

In the morning, we will have an exquisite tour of flavors that have made Lima the culinary capital of Latin America.  Start by visiting the local market to learn about the fruits, vegetables, legumes and other produce used in our cuisine for centuries; then have a lesson on Peruvian gastronomy, where we will learn the secrets of how to prepare the most famous Peruvian dishes.

At night, let’s enjoy a unique evening visit in the most prestigious museum in the city.  Climb the lit pre-Columbian pyramid where the Larco Museum is built, and discover the treasures of ancient Peru while you walk along its halls and galleries.  At the end, enjoy an exquisite dinner in a magical and cozy atmosphere with a view to the beautiful gardens.  Overnight in Lima

DAY 3: LIMA/CUSCO | INC: BREAKFAST

Early in the morning, transfer to the airport to take the flight to Cusco. On arrival, you receive a welcoming reception and transfer to your gay-friendly hotel. In the afternoon our exclusive city tour starts with a visit to the San Cristobal Plaza to enjoy its panoramic view of the city; visit the San Pedro Market to soak in its local flavors and to learn about more of the products grown in the area which supply the whole city. After this, the Korikancha temple will welcome you in all his magnificence; this temple, whose Quechua name means “Gold Enclosure” still bedazzles us with the thought of its gold covered walls. Then it is the turn to visit the Santo Domingo Church. We will walk from San Blas, the artisans’ neighborhood, to the Hatun Rumiyoc street, stopping at the Inca Roca Palace, nowadays home to the Archbishop’s Palace and also at the famous Twelve Angle Stone; then continue our walk to the Main Square to visit the Cathedral and its valuable and beautiful colonial masterpieces. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Cusco

Remember that in order to get used to the altitude it is suggested to have a light meal the first day in Cusco.  Thus, we strongly suggest going to Green’s, an organic restaurant that offers natural and healthy alternatives (optional)

DAY 4: CUSCO | INC: BREAKFAST

In the morning, we will distance from the crowds and visit Sacsayhuaman, a huge and impressive fortress of colossal constructions and surrounded by beautiful views blending together perfectly. Our adventure continues at the Inca shrine Qenqo, to see a sacrificial altar embedded inside a rock cave. Finally, we will arrive to the Puca Pucara viewpoint and Tambomachay, monument of impressive architectonic knowledge considered as one of the pillars of Andean cosmovision.  In the afternoon it’s off to relax or to return to San Blas, walk around its streets and plazas and spend more time at the artisans workshops and do some shopping. Transfer to hotel and overnight in Cusco.

For dinner, we highly recommend going to Fallen Angel, a kitsch restaurant-bar that has become a “must” when visiting Cusco. Don’t miss on the chance to eat over bathtubs full of colorful fish (optional)

DAY 5: SACRED VALLEY – LOCAL COMMUNITY | INC: BREAKFAST / LUNCH

Get ready to experience something different today. Visit an Andean community where we will be welcomed by the locals and their ancient traditions; see how they produce their own natural products and their textiles. You will be part of this experience by working the land, harvesting produce and spinning wheels enjoying the magic and joy of our new friends and have lunch with them. In the afternoon, we’ll head to the Pisaq market to do some souvenir shopping or maybe try a warm “empanada” recently made in a mud brick oven.  Transfer to the hotel where we will have the rest of the day off to enjoy the natural surroundings of the Valley.  Overnight at the Sacred Valley.

DAY 6: SACRED VALLEY | INC: BREAKFAST / LUNCH

Start the day in Chinchero with a walk around its beautiful town and archaeological complex. Have the opportunity to see a short exhibit of traditional textiles, a distinctive feature of this town dedicated to following ancestral dyeing techniques to create high quality works of art. Our trip continues in Moray, a place with breathtaking views thanks to its colossal concentric terraces resembling a coliseum. The terraces recreated 20 different types of microclimates, and they were studied to ensure the agricultural production of the empire. After a picnic-style lunch continue our journey to Maras, the millenary colonial salt mines. The contrast of the white pools against the green valley is so impressive that it resembles a postcard. Our last stop: Ollantaytambo, a small town full of local color and inhabited since Inca times; visit the main temple used as a fortress during the Inca resistance. Breathtaking views for amazing pictures. Return to the hotel and overnight stay in the Sacred Valley.

DAY 7: SACRED VALLEY /MACHU PICCHU | INC: BREAKFAST / LUNCH

Today it’s time for a train trip to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World! As you arrive at the Aguas Calientes station our local staff will assist on boarding the bus to go up the winding road to Machu Picchu, amid a spectacular view of the Urubamba River and its canyon.  The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, will astonish us with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps and urban areas. Energy is all around us! After a guided visit, you’ll have time to explore the fortress, then return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes or in Machu Picchu.

DAY 8: MACHU PICCHU/CUSCO| INC: BREAKFAST / LUNCH / DINNER

In the morning, take the Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo. On your way to Cusco stop at the workshop of renowned artist Pablo Seminario, famous for creating his own style inspired by ancient civilizations such as Nasca, Wari, Chancay, among others. We’ve arranged something special for lunch: the Huayoccari Estate House, one of the best places after an active excursion to the valley; the estate owners, the Lambarri Orihuela family who have lived in the valley for over 350 years will be your hosts.  Be dazzled by the architecture of the estate, its history and the impressive view overlooking the Sacred Valley while the last touches to lunch are made. This will be your last night in Cusco, and the best way to end this adventure is by having a sophisticated dinner at MAP Café, one of the best restaurants in town! Overnight stay in Cusco
