Ottawa, June 30 – July 2

Feel our PRIDE – Join Rainbow High to Celebrate Canada Day in our Nation’s Capital – OTTAWA.  Depart on VIA Rail, the day after WorldPride 2014 from Toronto’s gay village for Ottawa and the biggest birthday party in the Nation! – a giant patriotic party on the lawns of Parliament Hill, Major’s Hill Park, Jacques Cartier Park and on the closed streets of downtown.

Arrive in Ottawa early evening night one and check into your hotel accommodations in the heart of downtown and close to the gay village, bars and nightlife.  A Welcome Dinner has been planned in your honour at Le Café in the National Arts Centre with a beautiful view of the Rideau Canal.  Choose to have an early night or party the night away but be sure you are ready for day 2 – Canada Day!

The crowds start to gather on Parliament Hill early, for a 9AM carillon concert featuring the Peace Tower bells, followed by the official flag raising and the Changing the Guard ceremony (definitely not to be missed!); be there at noon for a thrilling performance by the Snowbirds aerobatic team, and a noon hour show filled with cultural entertainment.  Excitement continues throughout the day at major sites and attractions downtown and across the Capital. We’ve included a group tour of the Parliament Buildings and many of the museums offer FREE admission on Canada Day as well as a FREE Jazz Festival.  The evening show on Parliament Hill features a stellar line-up of Canadian performers. And as always, the evening will be topped off by a giant fireworks show with some of the largest shells allowed in Canada; you simply don’t want to miss! Cameras are a must!

Before leaving make sure to visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police stables, a living tribute to Canadian heritage and history.  Of course, because we are Canadian EH!....and because we’re SO NICE we’ll give our international visitors joining this tour lots of Canada gifts and an Honorary Canadian Citizen Certificate; exclusive to Rainbow High Vacations and this tour.

Quebec City, July 2 – 4

Depart Ottawa on VIA Rail and arrive Quebec City and check into your centrally located gay-friendly hotel accommodation where you will stay for the next 2 nights!  Our hotel options can place you inside the Walled City or in the Lower Town, all excellent choices.

Exuberant, romantic Quebec City welcomes you…set in a beautiful natural background of Vieux-Quebec (Old Quebec) is small and dense, steeped in four centuries of history and French traditions.  Because of the site’s immaculate preservation as the only fortified city remaining in North America, UNESCO has designated Vieux-Quebec a World Heritage Site.

Start your Quebecois experience with a night to remember – a Quebecois dining experience at Aux Anciens Canadiens.  Housed in the historic Maison Jacquet, the oldest house in Quebec, dating back to 1675-76, the restaurant continues to be known internationally for its fine cuisine and warm Quebec hospitality.

The following morning you will take off on an authentically romantic, historically enriching, unforgettable “Caleche” (Horse-drawn carriage) tour of Old Quebec, the birthplace of French civilization in North America over 400 years ago.  After the tour make sure you take some time to explore Quartier Petit Champlain, it’s a MUST-SEE – At the bottom of Côte de la Montagne, escalier Casse-Cou (Breakneck Stairs, walk down them but not up!) and thefunicular (elevator ride up), lies the Petit-Champlain district, a picture-perfect neighbourhood resembling a quaint riverside village with plenty of exclusive boutiques, restored houses now home to bistros, art galleries and specialized handicraft boutiques.  If shopping’s up you alley then be sure to head to Place Laurier for great one-of-a-kind boutiques and the always chic Simon’s department store – it’s GREAT; you can also take the FREE shuttle to Place Laurier, ask you concierge at the hotel.

Be sure to stop in for your Rainbow Martini at Bar Le Drague! – A must have!  Le Drague triples as a cabaret, a club and a trendy spot and has proudly welcomed an open-minded and diverse clientele for 30 years running. Multiple zones with distinct ambiances and activities have been set up; the cabaret zone offers shows featuring female impersonators (our famous Drag Queens!) who will wow you with singing, dancing, humor and variety.

Montreal, July 4 – 6

Arrive Montreal and check into your centrally located gay-friendly hotel accommodation where you will stay for the next 2 or 3 nights – you choose!

Montreal, the second largest city in Canada, after Toronto, is the largest bilingual city in North America and draws upon the combined strengths of its French and British roots to attract newcomers from around the world.  It’s old world charm and New World effervescence are unquestionably woven into the fibre of the metropolis, but it’s the wondrous amalgam of cultures that gives Montreal it unique cachet.

The Village, just east of downtown, is one of the largest queer districts in North America. Throughout most of the year, it’s a quiet and quirky neighborhood of gays, lesbians, families and cozy B+Bs housed in century-old duplexes and triplexes. And from June to September, the Village is a big celebration of diversity, where out-of-towners mix with locals, dine al fresco, shop profusely, and relax under the sun with a cocktail or two or dance the night away at Club Unity, the city’s most popular gay bar!  We’ve included a visit to Cabaret Mado, alegendary venue named in honor of its legendary owner, popular drag queen Mado. This Sainte Catherine Street hotspot is a great place to dance and catch some terrific cabaret – here you will enjoy a Rainbow Martini especially from Queen Mado! – Exclusive to Rainbow High travelers.

On your first day in Montreal, we’ve included the Hop On Hop Off double-decker tour; your two-day ticket allows you to enjoy the full two-hour tour, or hop on and off at your leisure at various stops throughout Montreal.  Visit the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Canada's oldest and one of its most important art institutions, founded in 1860.  Also, be sure to shop! – shopping to Montrealers is as important as dining out; a visit to Simon’s department store on Ste-Catharine is a must for great Quebec inspired fashion; Old Montreal for hand-made crafts and unique souvenirs and high-end shopping on rue Sherbrooke are recommended.  Oh and guys, make sure to shop along Rue Peel which is known for great men’s fashions.

After an exhausting morning of shopping it’s time for a Montreal tradition – lunch at Swartz’s Deli!  Home of theWorld Famous Original Smoked Meat with over 80 years of tradition!  Swartz’s Deli is the oldest deli in Canada, a Montreal classic…you won’t want to miss this.
