Perth, Australia

With an average of 8 hours sunshine per day 365 days a year, where better to jet off to than Perth, the sunniest capital in the world.  If you want to catch up on your vitamin D intake, and escape the doom and gloom of your hometown, head "down under" and join these fun loving sun worshippers.  As a continent, Australia has the most unique flora and fauna to be found.  This is undoubtedly the home of Mother Nature.

“Remote” was the commonly used description for this pretty city, but things have changed a little since then, and all for the better.  Without having destroyed the rustic atmosphere and blossoming wildlife, Perth has slowly but surely flowered into a sophisticated cosmopolitan city, without the intensity and stress of typical city life.  Here you have the opportunity to work hard and play hard with the pristine parkland and beaches.  For all intensive purposes, it offers the best of both worlds.  To add to the list of plus points it’s also very gay friendly, as is most of Australia.   So relax, sit back and do as the locals; enjoy the liberal life.

If you have a love of the deep blue, you would certainly give the Aquarium of Western Australia the thumbs up.  From the icy waters of the southern oceans to the tropical phenomena of coral reefs in the far north, "AQWA" offers you the chance to wander through a 98-meter underwater tunnel as marine wonders glide past you.

Rottnest Island is another local adventure involving a leisurely boat trip down the Swan River, with plenty of scenery en route.  Once at your destination take your pick of exploration trails.  This wildlife sanctuary is also the resting place for 13 shipwrecks, making it a fantastic pirate adventure with the added benefit of having secluded beaches and privacy for those vying for some time away from the public eye.

Dining options are many and varied so your sure to find something to suit your pallet.  “Jackson’s” is a great address tucked away in the suave Highgate area.  This is the place to go for some great value local Black Angus steaks, with an economical wine list to match.  For some fusion cuisine "Nahm Thai" is flooded with chic clientele and plenty of awards adorning the walls for a very good reason.  You won’t be disappointed with this Eastern jewel.

"Bent @ Bar 138" is where patrons get fun and fabulous on the dance floor.  This 100% gay environment is somewhere to relax and sweat it out.  “Connections” is also very well frequented with its mixture of weekly events.  Wednesday night, "Lesbian Mud Wrestling" event is always a highlight.

The city leaps into a vivacious mixture of fever and frivolity in anticipation of the October Pride Parade.  Street parties and general merriment is the order of the week.  Perth comes to life for this event and the fun Richter scale definitely meets expectations.
