Jeeves Travel is accepting internship applications for the year 2011. Jeeves Travel is the leading provider of leisure travel for Canadian gay/lesbian consumers and has strong industry-wide brand recognition.

Learning Opportunities:
You will assume a wide range of responsibilities during your work experience. Of particular importance are the following types of learning experiences, which reflect the following objectives:

Administration and management - The agency will provide you with practical experience employing routine administrative skills, techniques, and practices. You will gain experience in a variety of agency operations including accounting and record keeping, event management, facility operation, maintenance procedures, planning, program development, public relations, research, marketing, and human resources.

Organization, evaluation and supervision - You will participate in experiences that involve the agency, programs, and events. Your agency supervisor will ask you to take an active leadership role in special projects. Usually, you will observe and assist until you are acquainted with the staff, agency clientele, policies and procedures, organizational patterns, facilities and equipment, and rules and regulations. You will gradually assume increasing responsibility and eventually be solely responsible for your own program(s) and/or special project(s). By the end of your intern experience, you should have a better understanding and appreciation of the role, duties, and responsibilities of a professional travel counselor.

Observation and participation - You will be given the opportunity to observe the intricacies of the internal and external working relationships of the agency with suppliers, tour operators, and other industry contacts.

Special Project - You, in cooperation with your agency supervisor, will be expected to develop and complete a relevant special project of interest to you and of significance and enduring value to the agency. The intent is to provide the agency and/or its clientele with a tangible and useful finished resource or service. The project also provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate and improve your problem solving and communication skills. Your term work on the special project will be considered part of your full internship. You are expected to assume much of the responsibility for the project and should be able to work on it as autonomously as possible.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage files and transactions from point of inquiry - sale - closing - processing - documentation to post-trip follow-up

Develop and manage new client and group account relationships; maximize satisfaction

Create and sell fully independent travel and group itineraries pertaining to air, tour, hotel, cruises, and other products

Sell package vacations and other travel products from preferred suppliers and specialty travel companies

Utilize personal, telephone, and electronic marketing strategies to promote travel products and services

Represent Jeeves at trade shows, consumer shows, and supplier event

Proven superior selling skills

Enthusiastic traveler

Experience with GDS (Galileo, Constellation), and understandability of TravCom GBO accounting system is an asset

Experience working with gay travel markets – suppliers and consumers – is an asset
Knowledge:

Basic destination and product knowledge

Motivational sales techniques

Superior knowledge of Thomas Cook products is an asset
